February 2021 Featured Nalani James

Nalani James one of our young Entrepreneurs

Question: What is the name of your business?

Nalani:

Question: What motivates you to stay on track with your business?

Nalani:

  • What motivates me is when I see other people wearing different shirts. This inspires me to think of different ideas for a shirt.

  • What inspires me is the things that go on in everyday life. For example, with my “Stay Cool” shirt, I wanted to encourage people to stay cool despite what they are experiencing. Some of my shirts are also fun things that I like but overall, I want my shirts to encourage people and give them hope. I want them to know they are special and that they should love themselves. I want every person to believe in themselves and to not be afraid just to be you!

Question: What was your biggest challenge with setting up your business?

Nalani:

  • I think my biggest challenge was finding people to digitize my designs. I would draw my designs, and then I needed them digitized so I could put them on my shirts.

Question: Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?

Nalani:

  • There is nothing I would change.

Question: What leadership skills have you learned being an entrepreneur?

Nalani:

  • I learned that when you are trying to make/create something it may come out as an oops but you can turn it into a beautiful oops.

  • Through my business, I learned that communication is a crucial part of a business. For example, to advertise my designs, I had to speak up and use my voice to let people know what I was doing.

  • I learned about profit, loss, and expenses.

  • The business helped me to learn about saving, tithing, and giving to charity.

  • I learned that my ideas can come to life.

  • I learned that my family supports me and believes in my ideas.

Question: In a few sentences, what would you share with other youth about yourself and your business?

Nalani:

  • I want people to know I am friendly, loving, thoughtful, kind, creative, and funny.

  • I want my shirts to inspire people and make them feel hopeful.

  • I want people to know that one step at a time we can change the world!

  • I want people to feel encouraged to be brave and stand up for what is right when they wear my shirts!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

  • People look up to you so if you make a bad choice that can affect the world, so no pressure :-)

  • You are never too young to start. I started when I was 6.

  • I can do all things with God's help.

  • Be the leader God wants you to be!

  • Lastly, I want people to follow me on Instagram and check out my shirts

Nalani:

  • I want to thank the Bethany Baptist Church Youth Ministry for this opportunity.

February 2022 Featured Chaisen Sammons

Chaisen's academic achievements were earned through faith, discipline, and an amazing work ethic. He attends Christian School and Youth Ministry classes four times a week at Bethany. Chaisen has maintained excellent grades throughout elementary and middle school, and has what is equivalent to a high school 4.7+ GPA. Chaisen, for four consecutive years, ranked #1 for grades 1-5 for First In Math, (5th in the state of PA, and 10th in the nation) among other academic awards. Prior to the pandemic, Chaisen enjoyed being on basketball, soccer, and flag football teams. In addition to his love for fitness, piano lessons, and studying Spanish, Chaisen is also an avid video game player. In his downtime, he finds new and innovative ways to study his passion for technology. He also volunteers at World Peace for Children (WPFC), Single Mothers Everywhere (SME), and You Are Enough (YE). These organizations provide support and assistance to survivors of domestic violence and educate parents, children, and school administrators about the dangers of bullying. Chaisen looks forward to volunteering and meeting other young people. He says, ``It gives [him] an opportunity to share how 'cool' God is." He understands that in order to succeed in life, he must trust in God, have discipline and compassion so he can give back to others and share how much God loves each and everyone of us.

Bible thought for our Youth

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.
